MIL-DTL-38999 Connectors — Every Series, Every Insert Arrangement.

D38999 is the workhorse circular connector of aerospace and defence — and the family with the most finish, shell-size and insert-arrangement permutations to chase. RH stocks and sources every series, from Series I bayonet to Series III triple-start threaded, including the finishes the franchise channel has dropped.

What the part number tells you

A Series III number such as D38999/26WB35PN breaks down as: /26 = straight plug (Series III); W = olive-drab cadmium over nickel finish; B = shell size 11; 35 = insert arrangement (13 contacts, size 22D); P = pin contacts; N = normal keying. Change any one letter and it is a different part. The slash sheets, by series:

Finish codes that go obsolete first

Finish is the letter after the slash sheet, and it is where availability breaks down. W (olive-drab cadmium) and F (electroless nickel) are common; K (firewall, stainless), Z (black zinc-nickel), M (composite, nickel), J (composite, olive-drab) and T (nickel-PTFE) are where lead times stretch and last-time buys happen. Searches by finish: /26W, /26F, /26K, /26Z, /26M, /26J, /26T.

When a drawing calls a finish nobody makes any more, we quote what exists and say so — including remaining stock, alternates with the same intermateability, and the qualification status of each. What we never do is substitute quietly.

Contacts, backshells and the rest of the assembly

A D38999 connector ships without contacts. Crimp pins and sockets are M39029 slash sheets — /58 pins and /56 sockets for Series III, /57 and /60 for Series I/II — sized 22D, 20, 16, 12 by dash number: M39029/58, M39029/56, M39029/57, M39029/60. Backshells and strain reliefs are M85049: M85049. Dust caps are D38999/32 and /33: D38999/32, D38999/33.

Send the whole connector line — shell, contacts, backshell, sealing plugs — and we quote it as one kit with one date code lot where it matters.

Manufacturers

Amphenol Aerospace, TE Connectivity / DEUTSCH, Souriau (Eaton), ITT Cannon, Glenair, Conesys / Aero Electric, Corsair and Sunbank all build to the same QPL, so a qualified part from any of them intermates. Brand pages: Amphenol · Deutsch · Souriau · ITT Cannon · Glenair · Conesys.

Common Questions

Is a D38999 connector from a different QPL manufacturer interchangeable?
Yes. Every manufacturer on the MIL-DTL-38999 QPL builds to the same slash sheet, so a D38999/26WB35PN from Amphenol, DEUTSCH, Souriau or Glenair intermates and is form-fit-function identical. Some programmes still control the source on the drawing; tell us if yours does and we quote only that manufacturer.
Can you source obsolete finish codes?
Often, yes — obsolete finishes are exactly what an independent stocking distributor is for. We check our own stock, our vetted network and factory remnant inventory, and quote what actually exists with the date code and quantity, plus qualified alternates if you want them.
Do you supply contacts with the connector?
Yes. Specify the M39029 contacts and M85049 backshell on the same requirement and we quote the assembly as a kit. If you are not sure which contact slash sheet your shell takes, send the connector part number and we work it out.
What documentation comes with a D38999 shipment?
A packing list and, when provided by the manufacturer and required by the customer, the certificate of conformance. Every shipment is inspected on receipt per our ISO 9001:2015 quality system before it ships to you.
