The four screening levels
- JAN — qualified to MIL-PRF-19500, lot sampling only: JAN2N2222A
- JANTX — JAN plus 100% screening (burn-in, electrical): JANTX2N2222A, JANTX1N4148-1
- JANTXV — JANTX plus 100% precap visual inspection: JANTXV2N2907A, JANTXV1N5811
- JANS — space level, the tightest screening and traceability: JANS2N2222A, JANS1N4148

Why these go obsolete
Military discretes are built by a handful of fabs — Microsemi (Microchip), Semtech, Solitron, Sensitron, Central Semiconductor, Semicoa — and a screening level is discontinued whenever the volume no longer pays for the qualification. The die may still be in production while the JANTXV screening is not. That is when a drawing that calls the screened part needs an independent distributor with stock, traceability and the discipline to say which date codes it actually has.
